Some seventy-two hours to the Yuletide, the Oyo State Police Command has released an advisory to ensure safety and a peaceful celebration of the Christmas festivities.
This was as the state Police Command, restated in a press release, AZ:5250/OY/PPRO/VOL.6 /343, dated 22 December, 2025, its dedication to ensuring the safety and well-being of all residents during the Yuletide celebrations.
The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), CPS Adewale Osifeso, stated these in the release, entitled “Year-End Security Advisory: Ensuring Safety This Holiday Season.”
“As the holiday season approaches, the Oyo State Police Command is resolutely dedicated to ensuring the safety and well-being of all residents during the festive celebrations.
“In this regard, we present a comprehensive security advisory detailing the proactive initiatives we are implementing now and in the future,” it was stated in the release.
The Oyo Police Command, anticipating increased activities during the Christmas celebrations, stated that it has bolstered security measures to guarantee extensive coverage statewide.
“We have deployed additional officers to key locations, including markets, public gathering areas, and places of worship, to foster a secure atmosphere for all residents and visitors alike,” it added.
Apparently not unaware of security threats across the country, the police advised that all religious gatherings during the Yuletide must be held in open and publicly accessible locations.
“It is crucial that no events occur in secluded areas without prior notification to the relevant security authorities. This precaution is essential for effective oversight and the protection of these events.
“Additionally, we would like to reiterate the strict regulations against the unauthorised storage, sale, distribution, and use of fireworks. The associated risks with these items can lead to accidents and injuries.
“The Oyo State Police Command will enforce significant penalties on individuals found in violation of these regulations, as safeguarding lives and properties during the festive season is paramount,” it warned.
As part of the security measures, the state Police Command declared that the prohibition on unauthorised use of sirens, revolving lights, and covered number plates remains enforced.
It further asserted that whoever that contravene the prohibition, no matter how highly placed, will be prosecuted according to applicable laws.
“We encourage all citizens to maintain vigilance and work closely with law enforcement to further enhance community safety.
“If you observe any suspicious activities or have safety concerns, please report them immediately to your local police station or reach out to our emergency services.
“As we embrace this festive season, let us embody unity and collaboration. Together, we can foster a peaceful and secure environment for everyone in Oyo State,”
