The Babylonian King Nebuchadnezzar, after his great fall and, having come to a true repentance, acknowledged the greatness of God and His limitlessly unlimited powers thus:
“This matter is by the decree of the watchers, and the demand by the word of the holy ones: to the intent that the living may know that the Most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever HE will, and setteth up over it the basest of men.”-Daniel 4: 1.
Anybody who is well conversant with the activities and atrocities committed by the Biblical character above at the height of his fame would readily admit to what it takes to eat the humble pie and accept the vaingloriousness inherent in seeking for, attaining power and subsequently subjecting such to deliberate abuses, to the utter discomfiture of the ruled.
The stark reality in the polity today is the tendency of most of our self-appointed leaders to resort to primitive acquisition and accumulation of wealth.
These thieving leaders, not unaware of the implications of their action on the destiny of about 180 million people whose interest they professed to seek to protect, have, over the last 19 years, been milking the country dry and shamelessly looting the commonwealth, acquiring and stockpiling humongous wealth which they cannot expend, even unto their fourth generation.
As if that is not enough, this thieving generation of leaders, most often than not, resort to all sorts of crime and criminality to sustain their hold, by the jugular, on the country and its people.
In the course of the current democratic dispensation, many lives have been lost, entire families wiped off the surface of the earth and several others maimed for life. All in the quest to live and enjoy life to its fullest.
In the face of the monstrous atrocities of these so-called leaders and the seemingly unending pains and sorrows they are inflicting on millions of hapless Nigerians, many are beginning to call to question and doubt some of the attributes of the Living God as HE is variously called the all-knowing, the omnipresent and omniscient, among several others.
But can these set of people be blamed for their convictions? How do you explain the situation whereby millions of Nigerians (many of them hardworking and honest) are living in perpetual penury and suffer several other afflictions (caused by these heartless men), while the so-called leaders daily get suffocated on their ill-gotten wealth?
How do one explain the increasing number of deaths and sudden disappearance of Nigerians whose lives were cut short on the altar of political exigencies?
How do one explain the hundreds of lives lost, almost on daily basis, to carnages on the death traps called roads across the country?
To what can be attributed the mindless slaughtering, like Ileya rams and Christmas chickens, of our fellow human beings by some animals in human skin?
How can it be explained that most of these horrendous crimes and debasing inhuman treatment are happening before the very eyes of the ALMIGHTY and UNQUESTIONABLE GOD?
However, my eyes were further opened to the spirituality of God and the affirmation of HIS attributes, speaking with one of HIS anointed. The Supreme Being, called OLODUMARE by my Yoruba clan, is not a fool and HE is very aware of man and his tendencies for atrocities.
God remains absolute in HIS power but permissive in HIS will. He made man in HIS image and gave him freewill. God watches while HE allows us to do our things the way we want and like. HE gave us an advantage of freewill. At the same time, HE will ultimately and surely bring ALL to judgment over our every actions and inactions.
I was also made to understand that the victory of evil over good is temporal and ephemeral. The wicked ruler, likened to the Hippopotamus Syndrome, will always seek to acquire more and more but he will never find fulfilment.
Like the hippopotamus, such a ruler has his mouth ever wide opened but it shall never be filled. His primitive and blood-stained accumulations notwithstanding, he is not useful and adds no value unto himself or others. His memory cut and his accumulations would come to a ruin.
