Oyo State Rule of Law Enforcement Authority (OYRLEA), on Friday, cleared road setbacks around Obafemi Awolowo Stadium, Liberty Road, Oke Ado, Ibadan, demolishing illegal structures, towing obstructing vehicles, and impounding livestock in a sweeping enforcement operation.
The exercise followed the expiration of a 21-day demolition notice served on occupants by the Authority.
Structures removed for contravening environmental and urban planning regulations included water tanks, shanties, and makeshift stalls erected on public setbacks.
Speaking of the operation, Chairperson of OYRLEA, Honourable Justice Aderonke Aderemi (rtd.) stated: “Public setbacks are not extensions of private premises.
“Oyo State will not tolerate encroachments that endanger pedestrians, degrade infrastructure, or undermine urban order.
“Our policy is clear: issue notice, enforce compliance, and sustain the gains. Anyone who rebuilds or re-occupies cleared spaces will face the full weight of the law.”
OYRLEA confirmed in a release on Saturday by the state Commissioner for Information, Prince Dotun Oyelade, that enforcement will be sustained across critical public facilities in the state.
The Authority warned residents and business operators against erecting illegal structures, obstructing walkways, or trading on road shoulders, stressing that compliance protects lives and preserves public assets.
