The maiden edition of the much-anticipated Ogbomoso Cradles Carnival will kick off tomorrow, 19 December, 2024, with series of activities lined up to celebrate the event.
The five-day event, which will run until December 23, was aimed at celebrating the rich cultural heritage of Ogbomosoland, foster economic growth and unity.
Prince Williams Adeleye, chairman of the Organising Committee, stated in a statement, on Wednesday, that the carnival will attract a host of dignitaries.
The dignitaries, he said, included the governor of Oyo State, ‘Seyi Makinde; Minister of Arts, Culture, Tourism and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa; top government officials; tourism enthusiasts; indigenous clubs and associations and other key stakeholders.
The carnival, a significant component of the 25-year Development Agenda of the Soun of Ogbomosoland, Oba Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye, Orumogege III, promised a variety of activities.
Highlights of these included traditional displays of local cuisine, captivating performances of traditional dances and a showcase of iconic masquerades of Ogbomoso.
Highlights of the event included: Day 1: The Opening Ceremony; Day 2: Installation of the Araba Oluawo of Ogbomosoland, Odun Oole and a special Jumat service at the Ogbomoso Palace; Day 3: Sporting activities;
Day 4: First-year thanksgiving and special prayers for Oba Ghandi at the Ogbomoso Baptist Conference Centre; and Day 5: The grand finale at the Ogbomoso Township Stadium.
Prince Adeleye assured participants that all necessary arrangements have been made to ensure the safety of lives local and foreign tourists as well as indigenes attending the carnival.
“The Ogbomoso Cradles Carnival promises to be a memorable celebration of culture, unity and progress,” he assured.
