A senior citizen and retired Customs officer, Elder Emmanuel Titilayo Owolabi of Ora, Ora-Igbomina in Osun State, regained freedom, four weeks after he was kidnapped by some suspected bandits.
The people of Ora-Igbomina announced the release of Elder Owolabi in a press statement, on Tuesday, by the Asiwaju of Ora-Igbomina, Ambassador Yemi Farounbi, OON.
The abductors of the retired Customs officer had then demanded a ransom of ₦200 million from his family before he could regain his freedom from their custody.
The people of the community, expressed their gratitude to God for the safe return of the elder statesman, who they described as a patriot and a worthy senior citizen.
The community also appreciated the state governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, and the state government for their support and assistance throughout the period of captivity.
This was as they expressed confidence that the government would continue to strengthen security and expand government presence, particularly in boundary areas of the state.
The Police, the Military and other security and intelligence agencies were equally commended by the Ora-Igbomina Community for their efforts and sacrifices in safeguarding lives and property across the country.
The community further acknowledged the role of both the mass and social media for bringing the incident to national attention, despite the remote location of the community.
Traditional rulers in Ifedayo Local Government Area were not left out, particularly the Orangun and the Asaoni, for their concern, support, and intervention.
The Ora-Igbomina Community emphasised in the press release that unity remained the greatest strength of the community and its people.
The Akesin, chiefs, pastors, imams, and citizens of Ora-Igbomina were equally commended for their prayers, solidarity, and collective efforts during the difficult period when Elder Owolabi was in the kidnapper’s den.
Ambassador Farounbi concluded with a call for continued unity and self-reliance, stressing that community cooperation remains essential to addressing shared challenges.
