Oyo State governor, ‘Seyi Makinde, has called on Christians to imbibe the lessons of love and sacrificial living taught by Jesus Christ through his death and resurrection, as they celebrate the Easter season.
He equally harped on the need for Christians to continue to make intercession for Oyo State, Nigeria and the leadership of the country at this critical period.
The governor stated this in an Easter Message signed by his Special Adviser (Media), Dr Sulaimon Olanrewaju, on Saturday.
Makinde congratulated Christians on witnessing the end of the 40-day Lenten period and celebrating the Easter festival.
He stated that Easter signified the height of God’s love for humanity, as exemplified by Jesus Christ’s persecution, death and resurrection and it teaches humanity to be selfless, to love and make sacrifices for others.
He noted that throughout the period of the trials of Christ leading to the cross and beyond, He interceded for humanity, adding that Christians must imbibe that lesson by also praying for Nigeria and government at all levels during the Easter festival and beyond.
Makinde appreciated the Christian community for its support for and cooperation with his government since 2019, charging them not to relent as the administration continues to serve the people.
He equally admonished residents of the state to be vigilant during and after the festivities and to say something to the government once they notice anything suspicious in their environment.
Makinde charged residents to always make use of the state’s emergency number 615, stating that security is a collective responsibility of all.
