Mr Kunle Olatunji, a governorship aspirant in Oyo State, has explained that he defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Action Democratic Party (ADP) to purse his aspiration.
He said his decision was largely driven by concerns over what he described as declining commitment to progressive ideals and leadership principles within APC.
The governorship aspirant stated these as he formally resigned his membership of the APC and declared his intention to contest the 2027 elections in Oyo State on the platform of the ADP.
Olatunji stated in a statement by his media team that he has submitted his letter of resignation to the APC and has fully aligned with the ADP as his new political platform.
He described the move as both difficult and necessary, adding: “It was a mix of excitement and concern that informed my decision to take this bold step.
“I have been an active participant in APC as an emerging leader, but recent developments have made it increasingly difficult for me to pursue my aspirations within the party.”
“I have consistently expressed reservations about the leadership style and the waning commitment to the core values of the progressive political family. This situation has made it practically impossible for me to continue on that path.”
Olatunji, however, expressed gratitude to his associates and supporters within the APC, acknowledging the strong relationships built over time.
“I will deeply miss the strong bonds and shared values with my associates, many of whom have demonstrated capacity and commitment to national development.
“I remain hopeful that many will join me in this new journey to reshape the narrative of governance and leadership,” he stated.
Reaffirming his ideological stance, Olatunji declared his unwavering commitment to progressive values, noting that ADP aligned with his vision for leadership and governance.
“I am firmly committed to the ideals of progressivism. I am encouraged that ADP has demonstrated capacity and dedication to democratic excellence, discipline, empathy, and quality service delivery,” he said.
He further revealed that plans were underway to formally unveil his campaign on the ADP platform in the coming days, with a strategy aimed at achieving victory in the 2027 governorship election.
“I am not joining the ADP merely to participate, but with a clear determination to win. Together with other candidates, we are committed to forming a government that truly reflects the aspirations of the people of Oyo State,” Olatunji declared.
The ADP governorship aspirant assured of a people-oriented approach to governance, adding: “We will work assiduously to restore a culture of collective responsibility in leadership and governance, ensuring sustainable growth and development across Oyo State.”
Acknowledging the receipt of Olatunji’s resignation letter from APC, Hon Busari Kamoru, Chairman, APC Ward 7 in Oluyole Local Government Area wished him the best in future his engagements.
