Chief Jubril Dotun Sanusi, a renowned philanthropist, has commended Governor ‘Seyi Makinde and Chairman, Oyo State Water Corporation, Elias Adeojo, for the successful revitalization of the state water corporation.
The revitalization initiative included the recent restoration of the Agodi Water Reservoir, which is now operational and supplying of water to the Basorun Tank, a development that promises to significantly enhance the region’s water supply system.
Sanusi, Chairman/CEO of Ilaji Hotels and Sports Resort, is a prominent figure in the state known for his dedication to community welfare. He expressed enthusiasm regarding the achievement.
“The revitalization of the Oyo State Water Corporation is a monumental step toward ensuring our communities have reliable access to clean water.
“The functioning Agodi Reservoir is set to transform water distribution in the area, which has long been a challenge for many residents.
“The restoration of the Agodi Reservoir is part of a broader effort by the Makinde administration to address the critical water scarcity issues that have plagued Ibadan and its surrounding communities,” he said.
Sanusi highlighted the importance of extending pipe-borne water services to other underserved areas, stressing that such an expansion will not only improve access to clean water, but also stimulate economic growth.
“By extending pipe-borne water services, we can significantly increase our Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) and create employment opportunities for our youths,” he explained.
Sanusi also pointed out the environmental implications of this initiative. He added: “The increasing reliance on boreholes has raised concerns about groundwater depletion and quality.
“The rate at which boreholes are being sunk is alarming. By providing a sustainable water supply, we can alleviate this issue and ensure that residents have consistent access to quality water.
“This perspective reflects a growing awareness of the need for sustainable water management practices in the face of rising urbanization and population growth in Oyo State.
“The revitalization of the Oyo State Water Corporation aligns seamlessly with Governor Makinde’s broader agenda for infrastructural improvement and sustainable development in the state.
“The governor’s administration has prioritised the enhancement of public utilities as a means to boost the quality of life for residents, and the recent developments in the water sector are a testament to these efforts.”
Sanusi, however, advocated the expansion of water services to more communities, underscoring the vital role that sustainable water management plays in the socio-economic development of the state.
“Together, we can build a future where every community has access to the resources they need to thrive,” he stated, reinforcing his commitment to working alongside government officials and community leaders to realise the vision.
