Odumakin Diligently Served Yoruba-Group
The Yorùbá Summit Group (YSG) has described its former spokesman, the late Mr Yinka Odumakin as a most forthright and most steadfast man who diligently served the Yoruba interest.
The group made this known in statement condoling the family of the late publicity secretary of the pan-Yoruba group, Afenifere, who died of COVID-19 complications on Saturday.
YSG, in the statement signed by its publicity secretary, Mogaji Gboyega Adejumo, said it was deeply saddened by the loss of Odumakin, its pioneer publicity secretary.
“For the period leading from 2017 to 2019, Comrade Yinka Odumakin was our Indefatigable spokesman. Undoubtedly, Comrade Yínka Odumakin, was a most forthright, a most steadfast, as he also was as diligent in serving the Yorùbá interest.
“He the very best there was, in the whatever position, assigned to him, just as he served the Yorùbá Summit Group, the umbrella body for all Yorùbá groups.
“He was a warrior, a yrue Èṣọ́ of the Yorùbá Nation. He feared no one; he stood for all, for truth, for justice and for equality.
“The Yorùbá Nation and, indeed, the Nigerian State have both lost a distinguished personality. Yet, in his over 25 years in the public glare, Comrade Yínka Odumakin never once held a public office, elected or non-elected!
“To many of this generation Comrade Yinka Odumakin stood tall as an example of an elusive, fearless, selfless leader who was about service-to-others and not about service-to-self, the commonplace demagoguery of political opportunists….
“To us of the South West zone, you defined dignity, the philosophy of living, stating clearly, we are of the ọmọlúwàbí ethos never having to accept the doctrine of the sense of entitlement that some people are wont to throw about, the very albatross dogging this country,” the statement read.
YSG said the legacies left behind by Comrade Yínka Odumakin will undoubtedly continue to live long and far into the consciousness of the people.
“These legacies shall surely endure, not washed away, not wished away. Be rest assured Comrade, that those of us that you have left behind will continue to pick up the gauntlet, receive and hand over the baton, fly the flag and continue the great fight.
“Victory is nigh and your spirit to guide us there. Good night, Dear Comrade,” the group added in the statement.
