The League of Veteran Journalists, Oyo State, has condoled the immediate family, Governor ‘Seyi Makinde, the Olubadan-in-Council and the entire people of Ibadanland on the passage of Oba Owolabi Akinloye Ige Olakulehin, the 43th Olubadan of Ibadanland.
The League, in its condolence message, signed by its Chairman and PRO, Mr Banji Ogundele and Mr Bisi Bakare, respectively, stated that the passing of the late Olubadan was a lesson about the saying that “no matter how long it takes, when God works, it’s always worth the wait.”
Recalling the difficulties surrounding his ascension to the throne, the League stated that the end justified the means.
As contained in a release, the veteran he journalists stated that they received the news with shock and dismay, especially as the late Oba Olakulehin celebrated his 90th birthday last weekend with pump and pageantry, and was preparing for his first anniversary on the throne.
The League however praised the wisdom with which Oba Olakulehin ruled and the many successes he achieved during the period.
It added that the late Olubadan used the wealth of experience he gained in the army and in the Civil Service to bring peace and prosperity to the ancient town of Ibadan.
The League also stated that the era of the late Olubadan Olakulehin was a milestone as he was the first Olubadan to move to the newly constructed Imperial Palace at Oke-Are.
“Though a short reign, it was purposeful, peaceful and remarkable, full of love, wisdom, and generosity,” it was added in the release.
The League prayed God to repose the soul of the departed Oba Olakulehin and give his immediate family, Governor Makinde, the Olubadan-in-Council and all Ibadan citizens at home and in the Diaspora the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
