Governor Abba Yusuf has appointed three former governors of Kano State, Dr Abdullahi Ganduje, Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau and Dr. Rabiu Kwankwaso, into the Kano Elders’ Council.
The spokesman of the governor, Comrade Sunusi Dawakin Tofa, made this known in a statement made available in Kano.
The Council is an organ newly set up by the governor to serve as an advisory body to the state government.
Governor Yusuf said “Kano State has been blessed by Allah with numerous elders and former leaders who have achieved the pinnacle of their careers and have continue to be active and healthy.”
Governor Yusuf said the Council comprised former governors, deputy governors, Senate Presidents, Speakers of the House of Representatives, Speakers of the state House of Assembly and their deputies from the state.
Also on the Council were retired Supreme Court justices, retired Appeal Court justices, former Chief Justices of the state, former Secretaries to the State Government and former Heads of State Civil Service who are indigenes of the state.
The governor also stated that the Council included the leadership of the Ulamas, the business community, traditional rulers, former heads of security agencies from Kano State and other distinguished elders to be identified and appointed by the government.
Yusuf emphasised that these elders possess a wealth of knowledge, wisdom and experience, noting that his administration would deliberately seek to harness the expertise and experience of the members.
Governor Yusuf also added that the date for the inauguration of the Council would be determined shortly.
Governor Yusuf, last Friday, had his victory at the 18 March, 2023 election affirmed by the Supreme Court.
The lower court had earlier ruled in favour of the All Progressives Congress (APC), declaring that Yusuf of the New Nigerian People’s Party (NNPP) was not the duly elected governor of the state.
