The meeting by Senator Akpabio with the PMNCH officials was on the sideline of the 147th Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly, in Luanda, Angola.
PMNCH, hosted by the Geneva, Switzerland-based WHO, is the world’s largest alliance for women’s, children’s and adolescents’ health and well-being.
It has over 1,400 partner organisations working together through 10 constituency groups: partner governments, donors, foundations, NGOs, adolescent and youth groups.
PMNCH is also in partnership with private sector organisations, health professional associations, academic and research institutions, global financing mechanisms, inter-governmental organisations, and UN agencies.
The PMNCH team was led by Dr Flavia Bustreo, a leading physician, public health professional and advocate for the health and human rights of women, children, adolescents and the elderly
Bustreo is also known for taking action on the social and environmental determinants of health.
Other members of the team, hosted by WHO, included Senior Consultants Sue Mbaya and Mohit Pramanik.
On the team of Senator Akpabio during the meeting with the WHO officials were Senator Ibrahim Dankwambo, Senator Asuquo Ekpenyong and Senator Zam Titus.
The President of the Senate was the leader of the Nigerian delegation to the 147th IPU Assembly.
