Public workers and pensioners in Oyo State staged a peaceful protest on Monday, demanding for an upward review of their salary.
They also called the payment of the deductions from their salary, stating that their take home pay can no longer take them home.
They said their present full salary was not enough to even transport themselves to their offices
The workers also called on the Governor ‘Seyi Makinde-administration to effect an upward review of allowances retirees.
According to them, many of the pensioners are dying of hunger due to poor allowances.
The workers who converged at the State Secretariat as early as 8am were vehement in demanding to see the governor to personally attend to them.
They blocked the major entrance into the secretariat as they asked for payment of gratuities to retirees who have been stagnated since 2021.
Among others, the protesting workers also demanded for the release of their Letters of Promotion for the Years 2021 and 2022, respectively.
They insisted that they want Governor Makinde to personally address them over issues affecting workers in the state.
The protesting workers and pensioners are members of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Trade Union Congress (TUC), Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP), Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) and their affiliates.
The protesting workers are still waiting for government officials to address them as at the time of filling this report.
