The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), ‘B’ Zone will, on Thursday, honour Senator Kola Balogun with the Guillermo Cano International Award.
The NUJ, ‘B’ Zone (South-West Zonal Councils) comprises of Oyo, Ogun, Ondo, Osun, Ekiti and Lagos states.
The federal lawmaker serving Oyo South Senatorial District will be honoured as the Guest Speaker at the 2023 edition of the annual World Press Freedom Day Lecture/Award ceremony.
It holds by 10am at the NUJ Press Centre, Dapo Aderogba Hall, Iyaganku GRA, Agodi, Ibadan, Oyo State.
The award, as contained in the release was in recognition of the efforts of Senator Balogun to promote and support freedom of the press and individuals.
“The NUJ ‘B’ Zone, comprising Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Osun, Ondo and Ekiti states, is aware of your laudable efforts in promoting, supporting and encouraging, not only a free press, but also that of every individual in the larger society.
“We are equally aware of your robust and laudable representation of Oyo South Senatorial District in the National Assembly.
“Furthermore, the UN-instituted Guillermo Cano International Award for eminent and distinguished media-friendly personalities will be conferred on you.
“[This is] in recognition and appreciation of your laudable and exemplary favourable disposition to a free press and citizenry,” it was stated in the release.
Senator Kola Balogun, as the Guest Lecturer, will speak on “Freedom Of Expression As A Driver For All Other Human Rights” at the 30th edition of the World Press Freedom Day Lecture/Award.
The World Press Freedom Day is an international event instituted by the United Nations (UN).
It is aimed at promoting, encouraging and supporting activities and efforts that guarantee freedom of expression and speeches.
The 30th edition of the event is contained in a release by the vice president and secretary of the South-West NUJ, Comrades Ronke Afebioye SAMO and Abdulrasaq Alege, respectively.
