Today is a day of honour for Mr David Adeniyi Olajide as the highest accounting body in the country, the Institute of Chartered Accountant (ICAN), will confer on him Fellowship, its highest professional award.
Olajide, the Erinmope-Ekiti, Ekiti State-born, Lagos-based chartered accountant, was born about 57 years ago to humble parents who placed premium value on education for their children.
After his secondary school education at Aro Odo High School, Ipetu Ijesa, Osun State, the then young Niyi Olajide relocated to Lagos State in 1985 for academic excellence and also in the quest to make life meaningful for himself.
In Lagos, he started out, working with his sister who was selling cosmetics. Though strenuous, the work gave him the light and impetus to pursue a career in accounting as he was both the cashier and manager of his sister’s business.
Edged on by the desire to become a success, he secured a job with a Mushin-based chemical supplying firm, as its cashier-cum accountant.
He combined the rigours of working with his education and, by sheer dint of hardworking and determination, he graduated from the prestigious University of Lagos.
To realise his dream of becoming a chartered accountant, Niyi Olajide registered as a student with ICAN. His dream became a reality as he qualified an Associate Chartered Accountant, about 11 years ago.
After several years of rigorous trainings, practice and denials, history will be made today as Niyi Olajide will mount the podium at the ICAN Centre, Kofo Kasumu Avenue, Amuwo Odofin, Lagos.
There he will be recognised, honoured and officially conferred with the prestigious Fellowship of ICAN, the highest professional award of the accounting regulatory body.
David Adeniyi Olajide (henceforth to be known and addressed as Fellow, ICAN), a member of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN), is married and blessed with children.
