To cushion the effect of the Petroleum Motor Spirit (PMS) pump price hike, Kwara State governor, Mallam Abdulrahman Abdulrazak, has reduced workdays for public workers in the state from five to three days in a week.
The governor gave the directive to this effect as a temporary measure to ease the burden on public workers in the state, following the astronomical increase in transport fare.
Kwara State Head of Service, Mrs Susan Modupe Oluwole, announced the decision of the governor in a release by the Chief Press Secretary, Murtala Atoyebi, dated 05 May, 2023.
Mrs Oluwole stated that the directive by Governor Abdulrazak was to relieve workers Kwara State of the hardship being experienced as a result of the fuel subsidy removal announced by the Federal Government.
She also directed all Heads of Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) in the state to immediately work out a format to alternate work days for each worker under them.
The Head of Service, however, admonished the workers not to abuse the magnanimity of the Kwara State governor.
She stressed that a regular monitoring of MDAs by her office would be intensified to ensure strict compliance.
