Excitement As Ekiti Community Gets Police Station
It was a moment of excitement and jubilation for the people of Imesi Ekiti in Gboyin Local Government Area of Ekiti State as the foundation of the Mike Okiro Police Station was laid in the community, on Thursday.
The foundation-laying ceremony was witnessed by several community leaders, chiefs and indigenes, including the traditional ruler of the community, Oba Festus Olatunji Olatunde.
The foundation was laid by the Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, Mr Tunde Mobayo, who represented Chief Mike Okiro, a former Inspector General of Police.
Speaking at the occasion, the Onimesi, Oba Olatunde, said a police station is long overdue in the community and explained that Imesi is a border town with Ondo State.
“Imesi also has about 73 farmsteads, with 43 heavily populated active farm camps and therefore the need for the presence of security agencies cannot be underrated,” the traditional ruler said.
He described Okiro as a very good friend of his family and that of the Imesi community, disclosing that on his ascension to his throne, the retired police chief had consistently stressed the need for Imesi to have a police station.
The traditional ruler thanked the Divisional Police 0fficer (DPO) in charge of Imesi Ekiti for his unrelenting assitance to the community.
Also speaking at the event, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Mobayo, congratulated the community for having a police station.
He said, at the time some other communities in some parts of the country are destroying police station, it is a sign of imminent growth and development of Imesi that the community is taking preemptive security decisions.
The Ekiti police commissioner promised that the law enforcement agency in the state will render all necessary assidtance to ensure that the dream of having police station in Imesi Ekiti becomes a reality.
As contained in a statement from the Palace of the Onimesi, present at the occasion were 32 chiefs, a former accountant of Ovaltine West Africa, Mr Olaseinde Oke, youths and the Imesi Palace Cultural Troupe.
