Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Dauda Ali Biu, has ordered the immediate recall of patrol team with the Egbeda Unit Command general operation area of the Commission over alleged misconduct.
The order was contained in a release, dated 17 May, 2023, by the Assistant Corps Marshal, Corps Public Education Officer, FRSC Headquarters, Abuja, Bisi Kazeem.
This was sequel to a video which has since gone viral in which some of the FRSC officials of the unit were caught on camera harassing and assaulting a motorist for a yet-to-be stated offence.
The assaulted motorist was heard in the video recording alleging that an officer of the FRSC R S11.35, Egbeda Unit Command, identified as Mr M. J. Oni, slapped him and broke the windscreen of his car.
The voice further stated that he was told to park his car off the road, but he was blocked by the offending officer.
“Look at what you did, early in the morning. Is he a criminal?,” a voice was heard from the video recording.
“You broke my windscreen. I did not do anything to you. You slapped me. I did not do anything to you.
“See, he is hiding his face. Leave me alone. He is hiding his face. He broke my windscreen.
“Mr M. J. Oni, Mr M. J. Oni, you slapped me. Mr M. J. Oni, look at what you did,” the assaulted motorist shouted in the video recording.
The alleged offending officer was also later seen in the video recording kicking the motorist, threatening that the assaulted motorist would “suffer for it.”
The FRSC Corps Marshal, Ali Biu, described the action of the patrol team of the Egbeda Unit Command as patrol misconduct and “officers’ incivility to motorist.”
Bisi Kazeem stated in the release that the FRSC Corps Marshal therefore directed the immediate recall of the patrol team that was captured on camera.
He said the team behaved in a manner tantamount to incivility against a member of the public within the Egbeda Unit Command general operational area.
“The provocative act, as captured on camera, is a complete contravention of the Federal Road Safety Corps’ standard operating procedures for officers on patrol operations.
“In that regard, the Corps Marshal has directed the Corps Intelligence Office as well as the Corps Provost Office to commence with immediate effect, a full and comprehensive investigation into the entire circumstances that propelled the officer into the uncivil act and make necessary recommendations for swift administrative action,” he stated.
“FRSC is an ISO certified organisation that does not condone indiscipline or compromise standards when it comes to rendering service to the public.
“As such, all necessary disciplinary actions recommended will be administered appropriately,” the Corps Marshal stated in the release.
