The historic 70th birthday celebrations of the Asiwaju of Ijesaland, Asiwaju Olayinka Fasuyi, will peak on Saturday, 25 October 2025, with a thanksgiving service at the Cathedral Church of Holy Trinity, Omofe, Ilesa.
The thanksgiving service, holding 10:00am, will be followed by a reception at the Zenababs Half Moon Event Centre, Ilesa.
This was contained in a release by the Chairman, Planning Committee on Media and Publicity, Sir Folu Olamiti.
The closing programme was designed as a deliberate fusion of solemn gratitude and public festivity: a morning of worship and thanksgiving to acknowledge seven decades of life and service, followed by an afternoon reception that will showcase Ijesa culture, hospitality and music.
Attendees are expected to include family, friends, dignitaries and well-wishers who have been part of the long public life of Asiwaju Fasuyi.
Analytically, the finale functions on several levels: religiously and personally, it is framed as an act of thanksgiving – a communal recognition of providence and longevity.
Culturally, the reception will offer an opportunity to foreground Ijesa heritage and to mobilise local artisans, performers and caterers, reinforcing civic pride and local economic activity.
Politically and socially, the high-profile gathering will serve as informal forums for networking among regional leaders and stakeholders.
The organisers of the 70th birthday celebrations of Asiwaju Fasuyi emphasised that the occasion is first and foremost a spiritual tribute, rather than a political platform.
The entertainment programme will feature a performance by the legendary Chief Commander Ebenezer Obey-Fabiyi to underscore the organisers’ intention to blend devotional solemnity with a dignified celebration of music and memory.
Security and guest comfort have been given particular attention as the planning committee assured of comprehensive arrangements to protect lives and property and to ensure every guest is accommodated comfortably.
Olamiti emphasised the communal purpose and spiritual focus of the 70th birthday celebrations of Asiwaju Fasuyi.
“This grand finale is more than a personal celebration; it is a communal thanksgiving for an illustrious son of Ijesaland whose life exemplifies faith, leadership, and legacy.
“The finale promises to close AOF@70 on a note of thanksgiving, reconciliation and cultural affirmation – a fitting coda to a year of homage to a man described as a blessing to his generation.
“Members of the public and invited guests are warmly invited to attend and to join in the chorus of gratitude,” Sir Olamiti added.
