The Oyo State Rule of Law Enforcement Authority (OYRLEA) has intensified its enforcement activities against anti-open grazing, impounding livestock in Iseyin.
OYRLEA and its anti-open grazing war
The agency, in its war against unauthorised livestock rearing, impounded the livestock at Apata Olomo, off Ado-Awaye Road, Iseyin, in Iseyin Local Government Area of Oyo State.
The enforcement operation was initiated following petitions reportedly received from farmers within the community.
The farmers were said to have alleged that the activities of some herders had led to the destruction of farmlands and the consumption of agricultural produce by livestock, thereby affecting their livelihoods.
Acting on the complaints, the enforcement team, led by Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Francis Ojomo (rtd), proceeded to the area to investigate the claims.
Ojomo carried out the investigation alongside the Chief of Staff to the OYRLEA Chairperson, Kofoworola A. Akinbode, Esq., and other security operatives.
During the operation, the allegations were verified as the team discovered livestock openly grazing, in violation of the state regulations on open grazing and livestock control.
“This led to the impoundment of some of the animals by the enforcement team,” it was stated in a release, on Thursday, by the OYRLEA Chairperson, Justice Aderonke Aderemi (rtd).
The agency re-emphasised its commitment to upholding the rule of law, protecting agricultural communities, and ensuring compliance with livestock management regulations across Oyo State.
