Akande Greets Muslims On New Islamic Year
Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Professor Adeolu Akande, has felicitated with Muslims on the beginning of a new Islamic Calendar, Hijrah 1423.
Akande, in a statement, rejoiced with the entire Muslim Ummah in Oyo State on the successful completion of Hijrah 1422 and urged them to continue to live in peace with their fellow human beings, irrespective of their religious beliefs.
He said the act of peaceful co-existence “was greatly demonstrated by Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) when he migrated from Makkah to Madinah.”
According to him, Prophet Muhammad did not wage war against those who were persecuting him in Makkah, but rather choose to migrate to Madinah in order to avoid any confrontation with the enemies.
Akande emphasised that the essence of Hijrah is to live in peace with everyone, irrespective of their religious beliefs, adding: “The Prophet of Islam lived peacefully with those he met in Yatrib who were Jews and Christians without discriminating against them.
“The world will be a better place if only we can imbibe all these teachings as exemplified by Prophet Muhammad (pbuh).
The NCC chairman commended the Oyo State government for having a rethink by restoring the Hijrah holiday to Islamic faithful in the state.
“Let me particularly rejoice with the Aare Musulumi of Yorubaland, Alhaj Dawud Makanjuola Akinola, the chairman of Oyo State Muslim Community, Alhaj Ishaq Kunle Sanni and other eminent Muslims on this occasion. I pray Allah give us the opportunity to celebrate many more on Earth,” he added.
