A total number of 91 eligible students from the Federal College of Agriculture, Moor Plantation, Ibadan (FCAIB), have been granted the sum of ₦19,540,000.00 by the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND).
The disbursement by NELFUND, under its students’ financial empowerment scheme, was achieved under the leadership of the Provost of FCAIB, Professor Jonathan Atungwu.
This was disclosed in a press statement by the Head of the Public Relations Unit of the institution, Mrs Kemi Wilson, on Wednesday.
FCAIB held a sensitisation and awareness programme on 29 August, 2025, to enlighten students on the objectives, benefits, and operational procedures of NELFUND.
The FUND is a Federal Government financial intervention established under the Students Loans (Access to Higher Education) (Repeal and Re-enactment) Act, 2024, signed into law by President Bola Tinubu.
During the session, Head, Legal Unit, FCAIB, Mr Samuel Elum, outlined the eligibility requirements, registration process, and repayment structure of the students’ loan scheme, emphasising transparency and accuracy in the application process.
He revealed that, out of 600 students uploaded to the NELFUND portal, 92 applications were successfully processed, 91 approved, and a total of ₦19.54 million disbursed in full to qualified beneficiary-students of the institution.
The Management and Staff of the institution expressed profound appreciation to the Federal Government and NELFUND for the financial intervention.
They noted that the intervention has alleviated the financial burden of many students and renewed hope for a brighter academic future.
This was as the College expressed optimism that the initiative will be sustained to benefit more indigent students across tertiary Institutions nationwide.
In his remarks, the immediate past FCAIB Students’ Union President, Comrade Pelumi Folarin, commended the Federal Government and NELFUND for their commitment to expanding access to higher education for students from financially challenged backgrounds.
He also lauded the Management of the institution for what he described as its consistent support and dedication to students’ welfare.
The event was attended by members of the College Management, including the Deputy Provost (Administration), Deputy Provost (Academic), Registrar, Head of Bursary, Director of Audit, Deans of Schools, and the Dean of Student Affairs, among others.
Mrs Wilson noted in the release that the presence of the management of FCAIB at the event was a demonstration of the College’s enduring commitment to the success and academic excellence of its students.
