The Management of Victor Omololu Olunloyo Polytechnic, Ibadan (VOOPI), has warned students of the institution against any planned protest, scheduled for today, Tuesday, 8 July, 2025.
The Management gave the warning in a press release/public service announcement, dated 7 July, 2025, signed by the Acting Registrar/Secretary to the Council of the institution, Joseph Adewumi Ogunjimi.
The press release was titled “Poly Management Cautions Students’ Union On Planned Protest, Advices Parents To Call Them To Order.”
The planned protest was in continuation of the students’ agitation against the decision of the Governor ‘Seyi Makinde-led administration to rename the institution (formerly The Polytechnic, Ibadan) after the late Dr Olunloyo.
The Management advised the Students’ Union and the entire students’ body not to be involved in any protest or closure of the gates leading to the institution.
“Information available to the Management revealed that the planned closure of the gates will be from 6:00 am on Tuesday, 8th July.
“The Management warned the students against any protest that will be inimical to the interest of the institution and the government, as such action will not be tolerated.
“Any action against the interest of the institution or government will be considered as an affront by the authorities,” it was strongly stated in the press release.
The authority of the institution also urged parents and guardians to warn their wards against activities that would disturb the peace of the institution.
“Appropriate security agencies, who would work in conjunction with the institution’s security, have been mobilised to maintain peace and order within the institution,” it was further revealed in the release.
