Three members of a suspected armed robbery syndicate have been arrested by operatives of the Ogun State Police Command.
The suspects, who were said to have been terrorising people and communities at Ewekoro and its environs for quite some time now, were arrested on Monday.
The state police image-maker, SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, stated in a release, AZ:5310/OGS/PRO/VOL.7/204.15/03/2023, that the robbery suspects included Ahmed Isiaha, Sunday Ajibola and Jimoh Wahab.
They were arrested following a distress call received at the Ewekoro Divisional Headquarters that a four-man robbery gang invaded Apomu Community in Ewekoro Local Government Area of the state.
They were reported to have dispossessed members of the community of their belongings.
He added that the three suspects were a member of a four-man robbery and were arrested at the scene of the incident, while their fourth member escaped.
“Upon the distress call, the DPO, Ewekoro Division, CSP Jacob Olayemi, quickly mobilised his patrol team and moved to the scene.
“On sighting the policemen, the hoodlums took to their heels but they were hotly chased.
“With assistance from members of the community, three among the hoodlums were arrested,” Oyeyemi stated.
Recovered from the robbery suspects were one locally-fabricated double barrel pistol, five live cartridges and one expended cartridge.
Also recovered from them were one Bajaj motorcycle with registration number TTN 975 VU; one TVS motorcycle with registration number JBD 353 W; and some criminal charms.
The state Commissioner of Police, Frank Mba, has directed that the suspects be transferred to State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for discreet investigation, Oyeyemi stated.
