Mogaji Akinsola, Chief Olawale Oladoja, has been suspended by the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Lekan Balogun CFR, Alli Okunmade II, over land dispute.
Chief Oladoja was suspended as mogaji following his alleged activities unexpected of a mogaji in Akinsola Village in Akinyele Local Government Area of Oyo State.
The issue of land dispute came to public glare on Thursday following the clamping down on the residents of the community by Mogaji Akinsola.
He had claimed that he got court judgments to prove that the land upon which the residents built their houses was not legally sold to them.
About 200 houses in the community under reference were, on Wednesday, put under lock and key and red- marked.
Chief Oladoja, now suspended as Mogaji Akinsola, had claimed that he was in charge of the land in dispute in the community.
The action of Oladoja rendered many residents homeless, leading to some of them sleeping in the open on Wednesday night.
The affected residents protested the action of Mogaji Akinsola to the Palace of the Olubadan on Thursday.
The complaints and the public outcry that greeted the matter led to an emergency meeting, conveyed today, where the decision to suspend Oladoja was taken.
Present at the emergency meeting were the Olubadan, some members of his Advisory Council and representatives of Ibadan mogajis, led by Chief Asimiyu Adepoju Ariori.
Mogaji Akinsola and representatives of the affected residents were also present at the meeting.
Briefing the press after the meeting, Personal Assistant (Media) to Olubadan, Oladele Ogunsola disclosed that three communities, Akinsola, Aponmode and Labinkulu affected by the action of Mogaji Akinsola.
He said two other communities, represented by Baale Aponmode, Dauda Bolarinwa Aponmode and Morufu Raufu, relayed how they turned down overtures by Oladoja to join him in reclaiming the land from the affected residents.
Oladoja told the Olubadan Advisory Council that he made several attempts to resolve the matter before he decided to take action.
He said the matter was also reported to the Palace and claimed that moves were made to intervene.
Oladoja admitted that he did not wait for the outcome of the intervention by the Palace before approaching security agents for the execution of the court judgment that gave his family the right of ownership of the disputed land.
Ashipa Olubadan, Oba Biodun Kola-Daisi, read the riot act to Oladoja on behalf of the Olubadan Advisory Council.
“Several facts were established here today and they pointed to the fact that Mogaji Akinsola didn’t follow the code of conduct usually handed down to mogajis and baales when being appointed.
“In this instance, the case was already in the Palace, but did you inform the palace before the police was invited?
“Your action inconvenient, embarrassed the Olubadan Stool and the Ibadanland.
“You crossed the line and the Council has decided that you be suspended as mogaji. You are ordered to tender public apology to the people inconvenienced.
“You defied Olubadan, took laws into your hands by going ahead to take such drastic decision.
“This will serve as deterrents to others who fail to appreciate and recognise the responsibility their position as either baale or mogaji entails.
“Your suspension will last for as long as it takes to resolve the problem you have created.”, Ashipa Olubadan said.
