Olubadan-designate, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, has enjoined mogajis and baales in Ibadanland to report whatever can cause security breaches to law enforcement agents on time.
This was as he said land-grabbing is a serious offence that would attract sanctions, including withdrawal of traditional titles, stoppage of erring traditional rulers from parading themselves as Ibadan traditional chiefs and prosecution when and where necessary.
He gave the charge when the mogajis and baales in Ibadanland visited him, advising that they should be security-conscious at all times.
The advice by Olubadan-designate was contained in a press statement, issued on Sunday by the Chief Press Secretary to the Olubadan Palace, Chief Olugbemiga Ayoade.
He further made it known that the mogajis and baales are the chief security officers in their various domains, hence they should be security-conscious in their areas of jurisdiction.
Oba Ladoja, addressing the gathering, said he was ready and willing to attract investors to, not only Ibadanland but also Oyo State in an atmosphere where peaceful co-existence reigns supreme.
He noted that he will not allow anything like land-grabbing or security breaches to discourage the investors, hence the need for the advice.
The Olubadan-designate said: “You are the Chief Security Officers in your domains and as such, you will be held responsible for any security lapse in your areas.
“You should have the knowledge of the happenings in your environment and if you have any security challenge beyond your control, contact us, we will rise up to the occasion and assist you immediately.
“Don’t tell me you don’t know the existence of Boko Haram or other criminals in your localities. If they exist at all, report them to the law enforcement agents. They will take necessary actions to stop their nefarious activities.
“I am attracting investors to not only Ibadanland but also Oyo State where peaceful co-existence reigns supreme. I will not allow anything like land-grabbing to discourage them, consequently the need for this warning.
“The issue of land-grabbing is a serious offence in Ibadanland that attracts sanctions, ranging from traditional title withdrawal, stoppage of erring traditional rulers from parading themselves as Ibadan traditional chiefs or be prosecuted when and where necessary.
“To allow peaceful co-existence, promotion of social-cultural activities, security of lives and property, economic emancipation, unity and progress in Ibadanland are our collective responsibilities
“To reduce criminal acts, if not totally eradicated, local governments also have vital roles to play in the maintenance of law and orders like making bye-laws forbidding noise pollution, unhygienic environment, cattle open grazing and drug addiction, among others.”
