Ahead of the coronation of Oba Rashidi Ladoja as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland, on Friday, the Oyo State Police Command has unveiled comprehensive security protocols to ensure a hitch-free event.
The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), CSP Adewale Osifeso, disclosed this in a release, AZ:5250/OY/PPRO/VOL.6/319, on behalf of the state Commissioner of Police, on Thursday.
The press release was titled “Implementation Of Enhanced Security Protocols By The Oyo State Police Command In Preparation For The Coronation Of The 44th Olubadan Of Ibadan.”
The PPRO stated that the security protocols, put in place in advance of the coronation ceremony Oba Ladoja as the 44th Olubadan, was aimed at ensuring a secure and tranquil event.
“This occasion signifies a notable cultural and historical milestone and is anticipated to draw distinguished guests and participants from around the world.
“In light of the expected turnout, the Oyo State Police Command, in conjunction with relevant sister services, has perfected strategies for the execution of extensive security measures.
“These measures will encompass confidence-building patrols, heightened surveillance operations, and intelligence-led stop-and-search initiatives across the length and breadth of the state,” it was stated in the release.
The law enforcement agency added that special emphasis will be placed on all entry and exit points in and out of the state, with particular attention directed towards the coronation venue.
It stated that the areas of special attention will include public parks, train stations, and the Samuel Ladoke Akintola International Airport, Ibadan, among others.
“The organising committee, designated by the Oyo State Government, has officially communicated the impending closure of certain routes surrounding the historic Mapo Hall on the day of the coronation starting from 7:00 AM on Friday.
“The restricted routes from public access include: Beere Junction towards Mapo Hall; Born Photo Junction towards Oja’ba; Idi-Arere Junction towards Oja’ba and Itamerin Junction towards Mapo Hall
“In light of these alterations, the Oyo State Police Command advises the public to adjust their movement plans accordingly and to consider alternative routes to mitigate potential disruptions,” it was stated.
Furthermore, the Command issued a stern warning against any forms of public disorder, including unauthorised processions and movements within the metropolis before, during, and after the event.
“In prioritising the safety of individuals and property during this celebration, the Oyo State Police Command implores the collaboration of the public in adhering to all directives and in fostering a peaceful atmosphere throughout this momentous occasion.
“Additionally, the general public is encouraged to report any suspicious activities or concerns to their nearest police station or to utilise the designated emergency contact numbers provided by the police.
“The Oyo State Police Command anticipates a successful coronation that not only honours tradition but also showcases Ibadan’s rich cultural heritage,” it was added in the release.
