Mr Bode Ojajuni, on Monday, resumed as the 38th Commissioner of Police (CP) in Ogun State, declaring that there will be zero tolerance for abuse of office.
He was one of the new Commissioners of Police recently redeployed to some states by the new Inspector General of Police, IGP Tunji Disu.
Addressing his maiden press briefing in the CP Conference Room at the state Command Headquarters, Ojajuni said he was resuming office with a deep sense of responsibility and honour.
He said the policy direction and directives of the Force which emphasised unequivocally that the citizens are the bosses of the Police, as articulated by IGP Disu in his maiden speech, will be the cornerstone of his administration in Ogun State.
IGP Disu had also declared that there will be zero tolerance for abuse of office, indiscipline, incivility towards members of the public, violations of human rights, and corruption.
“These directives are sacrosanct and I assure you that I will implement them fully and without compromise.
“Discipline remains the bedrock of the Nigeria Police Force. I will not condone indiscipline among officers and men under my command.
“Professionalism, respect for human dignity and strict adherence to the rule of law must define our conduct at all times,” CP Ojajuni said.
He called on all officers and men of the Ogun State Police Command to treat members of the public with dignity, courtesy, and the utmost respect, adding: “We must remain professional in the discharge of our duties.”
The new Ogun Police boss also noted that respect is reciprocal: “Therefore, I also urge members of the public to engage with the Police and other security agencies with civility and mutual respect.
“See us as partners and work hand-in-hand with us in our shared responsibility of maintaining law and order.
“My administrative machinery for monitoring officers and men will be robust, proactive, and uncompromising.
“In this regard, the Complaint Response Unit (CRU) will serve as a key channel through which members of the public can report misconduct and hold officers accountable.
“The CRU is accessible via telephone, social media platforms including Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), Instagram and WhatsApp.
“In addition, the Gateway Shield App and the Control Room will remain continuously operational to receive complaints, intelligence and all relevant information from the public in real time.
“These platforms are designed to enhance transparency, responsiveness and public trust.
“Furthermore, the X-Squad and the Police Monitoring Unit will be fully deployed and strengthened to ensure internal discipline and professional conduct among officers and men,” he added.
Assuring that there will be no safe haven for misconduct, CP Ojajuni declared that “the few bad eggs within our ranks will not be allowed to drag the good name of the Force into disrepute.
“I encourage both officers and members of the public to remain vigilant and report any wrongdoing through the appropriate channels.
“The peace and security of the people of Ogun State remain my paramount agenda. I assure you that I will be accessible, responsive and committed to proactive policing strategies that will guarantee safety across the state.
“My administration will also be inclusive. All stakeholders will be given a sense of belonging as we work collectively towards a safer Ogun State.
“We will deepen collaboration with traditional rulers, community leaders, the media and other security agencies. Fairness, justice and equity will guide all our actions.
“I therefore implore members of the public to continue to support the Police by providing credible and timely information that will assist us in effectively combating crime.”
He charged officers and men of the Ogun State Police Command to brace yourselves for the task ahead.
“We must work with renewed vigour, discipline, and unity of purpose to achieve our collective goals. I also assure you that, as a welfarist, your welfare will receive the utmost priority under my leadership.
“To the entire citizens of Ogun State, it shall be an unrelenting service to sustain the existing peace as well as ensuring a peaceful and secure state,” CP Ojajuni assured.
