NUC Accreditation Of 15 Undergraduate, Postgraduate Programmes A Great Achievement In 2020/2021 Academic Session -VC Lead City University
Vice Chancellor of Lead City University, Ibadan, Professor Kabiru Adeyemo, has disclosed that the institution made a great achievement, securing the accreditation of 15 undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in the 2020/2021 Academic Session by the National Universities Commission (NUC).
This was as he said all pending programmes due for accreditation were fully accredited, same session, by the Nigerian universities’ regulatory body, NUC.
Professor Adeyemo made the disclosures while speaking as the guest at the “Breakfast Meeting”, organised by the South-West Group of Online Publishers (SWEGOP), held on Thursday.
He said the Academic Planning Unit of Lead City University, during the year under review, worked painstakingly with all departments on the accreditation and programme expansion project of the university.
“During the year under review, the Academic Planning Unit worked with all the departments in the university to review the curriculum for all existing programmes, in line with the National Universities Commission Basic Minimum Academic Standard (BMAS).
“The implementation of the reviewed curriculum commenced in the 2020/2021 Academic Session.
“In pursuit of the expansion of the number of academic programmes, the university sought approval from the National Universities Commission (NUC) to run new postgraduate and undergraduate academic programmes,” the VC said.
In response to this, Professor Adeyemo disclosed that the NUC conducted a Resource Verification Assessment visits to the university, last September.
As a result of the visit, the VC said the NUC approved the establishment of the following full-time undergraduate programmes programmes to be run in the main campus of the university, starting from the 2021/2022 Academic Session;
MBBS, Medicine and Surgery; Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D); Doctor of Physiotherapy; BDS Dentistry; B.Sc. Surveying and Geo-Informatics; B.Sc. Urban and Regional Planning; B.Sc. Building; and B.Sc Tourism and Hospitality Studies.
The postgraduate programmes accredited by the NUC for Lead City University, Professor Adeyemo said, included: PGD, M.Sc, M.Phil and Ph.D Psychology; PGD, M.Sc, M.Phil and Ph.D Mass Communication; PGD, M.Sc, M.Phil and Ph.D Microbiology; PGD, M.Sc, M.Phil and Ph.D Biochemistry.
He listed others to include: PGD, M.Sc, M.Phil and Ph.D Education Management; PGD, M.Sc, M.Phil and Ph.D Library and Information Science; PGD, M.Sc, M.Phil and Ph.D Office and Information Management.
The university administrator said the university has since commenced the running of both the undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.
“This is a big congratulation to the entire university community for this great achievement. It has been a wonderful year and God has been our mainstay, energizer and pillar of support,” he said.
Professor Adeyemo said all the programmes that were due for accreditation were fully accredited during that same 2020/2021 Academy Session.
The programmes, he said, are Accounting; Economics; Business Administration; Criminology and Security Studies; Public Administration; Anatomy; Physiology; Nutrition and Dietetics; Public Health and Estate Management.
