No Plan To Demolish BCOS Staff Quarters-Management
The management of the Broadcasting Corporation Of Oyo State (BCOS) has described as baseless, wicked and false a rumour that the state government plans to demolish the corporation’s Staff Quarter.
Speculations became rife on the social media, in the early hours of today that the Governor Seyi Makinde-led administration, in partnership with a private developer, planned to carry out the demolish the BCOS Staff Quarters today.
The speculations led to heightened tension as many of members of staff of the corporation were reported to had converge at the staff quarters to prevent the rumoured demolition exercise.
Reacting, however, the management of BCOS, in a statement by its Executive Chairman, Prince Dotun Oyelade, described the rumour as wicked and false, adding that there was no iota of truth in the report.
The statement explained that the BCOS Management had consistently and extensively engaged residents of the of the sprawling and expansive Staff Quarters which has been rechristened, Engineer Lere Adigun Estate on the development plans for the estate.
The management restated that the interests of the residents will be protected and accorded topmost priority in any development plan or scheme.
The statement emphasised that there is absolutely no truth in the story that the Staff Quarters is to be demolished and residents forcefully ejected.
It advised all the residents, the corporation’s labour unions and all members of staff to ignore “this wicked and unsubstantiated rumour.
It added that “the management will continue to engage the labour unions and the residents on the development plans for the proposed Engineer Lere Adigun Estate.”
Following further investigation, a source within BCOS disclosed to Newscoven.ng that there was a plan by the immediate past administration in the state to acquire part of the Staff Quarters for an estate development.
The source, however, disclosed that there was no plan, so far, by the present administration to go ahead with the plan of its predecessor, adding that what is happening now only belongs to the realm of speculation.
“Yes, it is true that there was a plan by the administration of the former governor, the late Senator Abiola Ajimobi, to acquire part of the Staff Quarters and develop it into an estate.
“However, there is no evidence so far indicating that the Governor Seyi Makinde-led administration is going ahead with the plan. What we are witnessing now is a mere speculation.
“Those who are behind the rumour of the alleged planned demolition of the BCOS Staff Quarters should produce the official letter from the state government to that effect to back up their allegation,” he said.
