Alhaji (Dr.) Ademola Wasiu Alli (AWA), an aspirant seeking to contest for the Oyo Central Senatorial District seat in the 2027 elections, has said his ambition was borne out of the desire to serve humanity.
The senatorial aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) further stated that his involvement in politics was not for commercial or personal gain, but for the betterment of his senatorial district and his people.
Alli made the declaration on Saturday, while speaking at the Hot Seat, a programme relaunched and organised by the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Oyo State Council.
The interactive session, themed “Real Questions; Real Answers,” featured seasoned panelists, including Chike Ogbogu, Dapo Falade, Yinka Adeniran, and Soji Ajibola.
As the man on the Hot Seat, Alli emphasised that his political ambition is rooted in a commitment to effective representation and service delivery.
He noted that his aspiration to represent Oyo Central at the Senate is anchored on addressing the needs of constituents and contributing his own quota meaningfully to national development.
Outlining his understanding of legislative responsibilities, the senatorial hopeful highlighted lawmaking, oversight functions, and representation as the core duties of a legislator.
He pledged to deploy his experience and competence to deliver impactful representation, if given the mandate to serve in the National Assembly.
Alli further disclosed that his years of experience in the executive arm of government have equipped him with the requisite knowledge to contribute effectively to policymaking and governance.
He added that such experience would be leveraged to advance the interests of his constituents.
On political mentorship, he acknowledged President Bola Tinubu and other APC leaders across various levels as his political leaders and fathers.
Speaking on the issue of campaign funding and finances, Alli expressed confidence in his capacity to pursue his ambition, citing goodwill and support from stakeholders.
He stated that he has been well equipped to be given the senatorial ticket by the APC leadership, given the fact that he has been able to have a full grasp of the pressing needs of his constituents.
Alli particularly said he was aware of the sundry challenges facing his constituents in Oyo Central Senatorial District, as his extensive tour of the district had exposed him to their areas of needs.
The APC senatorial hopeful further assured constituents that he would prioritise practical solutions to the identified challenges and needs, if elected.
The Fiditi-born accountant also outlined his key agenda, including training, empowerment, job creation, and attracting Federal Government projects to Oyo Central Senatorial District as part of the dividends of democracy.
Alli reaffirmed his commitment to the APC, stating that he would remain a dedicated member of the party, regardless of the outcome of the party’s ticket allocation process.
He also stressed the importance of women’s inclusion in governance, pledging to support and empower women to enhance their contributions to national development.
The Oyo Central senatorial hopeful also commended the Oyo NUJ leadership for providing a platform for politicians aspiring for elective office to bring their ideas, plans and programmes to their constituents.
The 62-year-old aspirant commenced his career as an accountant in 1990 and joined the Federal Civil Service in 1993 where he retired as the Director of Finance and Accounts at the Ministry of Defence in January 2024.
Earlier in his remarks, Chairman of NUJ, Oyo State Council, Mr. Akeem Abas, said the relaunch of the Hot Seat programme was aimed at providing a platform for prospective public office holders to present their plans and ideas to the public.
He restated that the Oyo NUJ remains apolitical and is committed to upholding ethical and professional standards in journalism, devoid of ethnic or religious biases.
The maiden edition of the relaunched Hot Seat programme witnessed a significant turnout by supporters of Alli from across Oyo Central Senatorial District.
