Oyo State government, in partnership with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), on Thursday, re-launched the state Social Mobilisation Committee.
The committee was re-launched in the office of the newly-appointed Commissioner for Information, Prince Dotun Oyelade, who resumed today.
This was contained in a release by the Director, Press and Public Relations, Ministry of Information and Orientation, Rotimi Babalola.
It was stated that the Social Mobilisation Committee has been abandoned since 2018.
Prince Oyelade said the Ministry of Information and Orientation will work with relevant agencies to undertake effective public awareness.
He said the ministry will ensure proper orientation of households on the need for disease prevention.
The orientation, Oyelade said, is particularly needed among children and women in some affected communities in Oyo State.
The commissioner said the ministry would intervene in the progress of children’s well-being in the state.
He added that it would be in conjunction with other ministries, departments, and agencies.
The relaunch was attended by the UNICEF Social Behavioural Change Specialist and other stakeholders from media houses, and MDAs.
It was also agreed at the relaunching that the stakeholders would be meeting quarterly.
“We will cooperate with you and ensure everything within the purview of our job is done with utmost zeal,” Oyelade said.
Speaking, the UNICEF Social Behavioural Change Specialist, Aderonke Akinola-Akinwole, said the quarterly meeting will ensure attitudinal change.
She said it will ensure positive results among parents and caregivers for a healthier Oyo State.
She urged MDAs and relevant stakeholders to work with UNICEF and the Ministry of Information to achieve the new goal.
Also in attendance were the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Information and Orientation, Dr. Taiwo Ladipo and directors in the ministry.
Earlier, Prince Dotun Oyelade met with the management team of the ministry, led by the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Taiwo Ladipo.
Dr Ladipo said Prince Oyelade has the expertise, integrity, courage and experience to oversee the affairs of the ministry.
The new commissioner is the immediate past chairman of the Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo State (BCOS), Ibadan.
