Oyo State governor, ‘Seyi Makinde, on Tuesday, approved a declaration of a 16-hour curfew in 10 local government areas of the state, apparently in the wake of rising insecurity in the affected local council.
Special Adviser to the Governor, Dr Sulaimon Olanrewaju, disclosed this in a press release on Tuesday evening, disclosing that it was contained in a memo issued by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG).
It was further disclosed that it was contained in the memo by the SSG, Professor Musibau Babatunde, that the curfew would take effect from Wednesday, 24 June, 2026.
It was also stated in the memo that the curfew, would be between 4pm and 8pm daily, adding that it would last for 48 hours in the first instance first instance.
It was added that it would affect the 10 local government areas bordering the Old Oyo National Park where, it was believed, the abducted pupils and teachers in Oriire Local Government Areas were still being kept by their abductors.
The affected local government areas, it was disclosed, included: Oriire (Headquarters: Ikoyi-Ile); Orelope (Headquarters: Igboho); Irepo (Headquarters: Kisi); Saki West (Headquarters: Saki);
Saki East (Headquarters: Ago-Amodu); Atisbo (Headquarters: Tede/Ago-Are); Itesiwaju (Headquarters: Otu); Iseyin (Headquarters: Iseyin); Olorunsogo (Headquarters: Igbeti); and Atiba (Headquarters: Offa-Meta, Oyo).
