The Oyo Agenda Group (OAG) has urged residents of Oyo State to disregard recent reports suggesting that Chief Jubril Dotun Sanusi has withdrawn from the 2027 governorship race.
The statement was a response to reports that Sanusi, a well-known philanthropist and the Chairman/CEO of Ilaji Hotels and Sports Resorts is no longer interested in the governorship seat.
The OAG spokesperson, Alhaji Akeem Adebayo, stated in a release that “It is very unthinkable for anybody to believe such a story that for someone who has not joined any political party will decide to withdraw from a race.”
His reaction reflected a growing concern among supporters who viewed Sanusi as a beacon of hope for good governance in the state.
Adebayo elaborated on the grassroots support for Sanusi, noting that the call for him (Sanusi) to run is not merely a personal aspiration but a collective desire among the people of Oyo State.
“The call for him to be the next governor wasn’t his own making, but the wish of the larger residents of the state.
“We know he is the right person for the task of governance in the state,” he stated, highlighting the widespread enthusiasm and anticipation surrounding the potential candidacy of Sanusi.
Adebayo also praised the remarkable contributions of Sanusi to both the business sector and the community. He added that “his unprecedented achievements in the private sector have not only transformed his businesses but have also positively impacted the lives of countless individuals.
“Chief Sanusi has consistently demonstrated a commitment to uplifting the downtrodden within his capacity.”
In addition to his philanthropic efforts, the OAG spokesperson also pointed out the vision of Sanusi for Oyo State.
“If such a person could now be allowed to be in the helm of affairs in the state, it is very obvious to the blind that Oyo State will be made a mini London in no distant time,” he declared.
The OAG also highlighted plans by Sanusi to prioritise education, healthcare and infrastructure, if elected.
“Supporters believe that his business acumen, coupled with his passion for community service, positions him uniquely to address the challenges facing Oyo State.
“We envision a future where our youth are empowered through quality education, our healthcare system is robust and our infrastructure meets the demands of a growing population.
“This marks the first time in Oyo’s history that residents are actively clamouring for an individual to run for a political office,” the group‘s spokesperson added.
Adebayo restated the commitment of the group to seeing Sanusi in the leadership and governance of Oyo State in 2027.
“As the 2027 governorship election approaches, the Oyo Agenda Group, located at No.36, Gbadebo Street, Mokola, Ibadan, remains steadfast in its advocacy for Chief Jubril Dotun Sanusi.
“It seeks to galvanise public support and ensure that the true narrative of his candidacy prevails over misleading reports,” he stated.
