The 2024 edition of BarryFest, a musical festival in honour of the late Fuji exponent, Alhaji (Dr) Sikiru Ayinde Barrister, will hold in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, from 9-10 February.
The event was organised by various groups of fans clubs of the late famous Fuji musician, within and outside the shores of Nigeria.
Secretary of the 2024 BarryFest, Asiwaju Ademola Adesingbin, stated this in a press release to announce the event.
Among the programmes lines up for the Day One, 9 February, of the event is a post-humous birthday prayer for the late iconic Fuji musician at Muftau Lanihun Mosque, Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
On the same day, there would be the unveiling of a cenotaph in memory of Sikiru Ayinde Barrister at Lagos-Ibadan Express Way.
There would also be a Gala Night at the expansive Ilaji Hotel and Resort, situated at Akanran, Ibadan.
Day 2 of the 2024 BarryFest, 10 February, would witness the premiere of the first episode of a Fuji documentary, titled “Mr Fuji Barry Wonder”, by Saheed Aderinto, a professor of History United States of America (USA).
Adesigbin stated in the release that there would also be presentation of various categories of awards to deserving individuals and bodies during the 2024 BarryFest.
The event would be under the chairmanship of Senator Sharafadeen Alli, representing Oyo South Senatorial District in the National Assembly.
The chairperson is Yeye Adunola Oredolapo Adesuyi, while the Guest Speaker at the Fuji documentary is Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, the Director General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA).
Guests and members of the various fans clubs of the late legendary Fuji musician would be entertained by various Fuji musicians.
The late Alhaji (Dr) Sikiru Ayinde Balogun, MFR, otherwise known as Ayinde Barrister, was a native of Ibadan who was born in Lagos on 9 February, 1948.
A song-writer, song-producer and music performer, Barrister was widely regarded as the pioneer of Fuji music which evolved from Were music.
The late Fuji music icon released his first album in 1965 and subsequently went on to release over 70 studio albums throughout his musical career between 1965 and 2010.
Sikiru Ayinde Barrister also called Alhaji Agba and Barusati, died on 16 December, 2010 (aged 62) at St. Mary’s Hospital, London, United Kingdom and was buried at his Music Chamber, Isolo, Lagos State.
