Aare Dele Momodu, chairman of the Ovation Media Group, has been named the recipient of the maiden Award of Excellence of the Drum Festival and Award.
The award, scheduled to hold in Toronto, Canada in July, is in recognition and appreciation of Momodu for his doggedness and commitment to the journalism profession.
Momodu will be presented with the award at the annual Drum Festival, taking place at Fuzion Banquet Hall, Toronto, Canada on Friday, 28 July, 2023.
As contained in a letter by the organisers, the award was in recognition of his tremendous contributions to the growth and development of print and digital journalism in Nigeria.
The publisher of The Drum Online International Media Inc., Prince Segun Akanni, said the festival’s committee decided to honour Dele Momodu for his exploits in his chosen profession.
“You have been flying the flag of transparent, unbiased, neutral and undiluted news reportage since the establishment of the Ovation Media, as well as your tremendous contributions to the growth and development of print and digital journalism in Nigeria.
“It is in recognition of this that the management of the Drum Online Inc and the festival committee pencilled you down as one of the highly distinguished personalities to be honoured at the prestigious occasion in Toronto, Canada.
On the Drum Festival (Ayan-Agalu Festival), Prince Segun Akanni said part of the focus and mandate of Drum Online Media Inc is a desire for the promotion of African cultural renaissance.
He said this informed the organisation’s plan and preparation to showcase one of Africa’s and Nigeria’s most prestigious cultural festivals known as The Drum Festival (Ayan-Agalu Festival).
Activities lined up for the festival included procession across Toronto-Mississauga, lecture on the theme of the event and arts exhibition.
Others were drum competition, presentation of Award of Excellence and several other side attractions.
