The Olugbon of Orile-Igbon, Oba Francis Olushola Alao, has said the people of Nigeria should be grateful and thank God for the existing peace in the country as Nigerians celebrate Eid-el-Adha.
The traditional ruler stated this in a statement to congratulate Muslim faithful in Orile-Igbon and Nigeria at large on the celebration of this year’s Islamic festival.
Olugbon, in the statement which he personally signed, expressed gratitude to Allah for the grace to witness another Eid el-Adha, which Muslims are celebrating across the world this weekend.
Oba Alao said it was important to thank God for peace in Nigeria, particularly in Oyo State where people of different faiths live peaceably together.
He urged Muslims to use this occasion to reflect on the three key virtues that the festival stands for – obedience, sacrifice and God’s mercy.
The Olugbon emphasised the need for Muslims to continue to hold fast to their faith in Allah, obey Him and live a life of sacrifice, assuring that the Almighty Allah is always faithful to show mercy.
“Importantly, these virtues should continue to show in our relationship with fellow Muslims, neighbours practicing other faiths, and in our daily obligations to Nigeria, our country.
We should continue to be good Muslims, upholding the tenets of the faith and be patriotic in all our activities.” Olugbon counseled.
The traditional ruler also urged Muslim faithful to be moderate during the Eid-el-Adha celebration, remember the needy, and continue to support all leaders, “trusting God for the Nigeria of our collective dream.”
