NSIB, Oyo Govt Partner On Transport Safety

Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) and the Oyo State government are partnering to explore potential areas of collaboration in the advancement of transport safety measures in the state.

This was as the Bureau and the state government are also collaborating in the quest for strategies to prevent accidents within the state.

This was revealed when the NSIB Director General, Captain Alex Badeh Jr., along with members of his team, paid a courtesy visit to the state governor ‘Seyi Makinde.

As contained in a press release, on Sunday, by the NSIB Director of Public Affairs and Family Assistance, Mrs Bimbo Olawumi Oladeji, the visit was aimed at strengthening relationships between the Bureau and the Oyo State government.

Captain Badeh Jr. expressed his appreciation to the governor for his leadership and commitment to infrastructure development in Oyo State.

He noted the importance of incorporating robust safety protocols across all sectors, including transportation and other industries that require stringent safety oversight.

The NSIB Director General briefed Governor Makinde on the mission of the Bureau and its major accomplishments in recent years.

He emphasised the dedication of NSIB to improving safety outcomes through thorough investigation of incidents and accidents, transport safety recommendations, as well as proactive engagement with stakeholders.

“We are here today to express our admiration for your visionary leadership and to explore how we can work together to promote a culture of transport safety in Oyo State.

“NSIB is committed to ensuring that safety remains at the forefront of every development initiative, and we believe that by working with state governments, we can create safer environments across Nigeria,” Captain Badeh said.

Governor Makinde, in response, welcomed the NSIB DG and his team, applauding the Bureau’s role in enhancing transport safety in Nigeria.

The governor expressed his eagerness to explore areas where the state government could benefit from the Bureau’s expertise, particularly in sectors involving transportation and public safety.

“Your work is critical in ensuring that we learn from past accidents and prevent future occurrences, and I am pleased to see your proactive approach in reaching out to stakeholders at all levels,” he stated.

The governor further highlighted his administration’s commitment to infrastructural development and improving safety standards in the state.

Makinde also emphasised the importance of cooperation between federal agencies and state governments in achieving lasting progress in safety initiatives.

As stated in the release, the discussion provided an opportunity for the NSIB team and Governor Makinde to deliberate on areas of mutual interest.

These included the need for continuous education and training on safety protocols, as well as the importance of public awareness campaigns to instil a culture of safety among citizens.

The visit was concluded with a mutual commitment to strengthening collaboration and actioning programmes and projects that would benefit, not only Oyo State, but also other regions of the country.

The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) is the multimodal transport agency charged with the mandate of promoting transport safety and conducting objective, comprehensive.

It also into conducting accurate investigations into transport accidents and incidents in Nigeria with the aim of identifying the probable causes and advocating for safety improvements based on our findings.
