The Oyo State Government and the European Union (EU) have agreed to collaborate on agriculture, education and the fight against gender-based violence.
This was disclosed when the state governor, ‘Seyi Makinde, on Tuesday, played host to a EU delegation, led by the European Union Ambassador to Nigeria and ECOWAS, Ambassador Gautier Mignot, at his private residence in Ibadan.

The meeting had in attendance Professor Leila Ben-Amor Mathieu, Head of Section for Human Development at the European Union in Nigeria; Dr Debo Akande, Executive Adviser on Agribusiness and International Cooperation to Oyo State Governor; and Rev’d Idowu Ogedengbe, Executive Assistant (Administration) to the Governor.
As stated in a release by his Special Adviser (Media), Dr Sulaimon Olanrewaju, Governor Makinde later went into a private session with Ambassador Mignot.
Addressing journalists after the meeting, the European Union Ambassador declared that it was his first time of coming to Oyo State.
He said the parties discussed agricultural development and climate change at length with a view to strengthening the state’s profile as a critical food basket of the country.
Ambassador Mignot said: “We also discussed education, where we are partnering, and the fight against gender-based violence.
“Youths and women are our priorities in all of the projects I have highlighted, and we are focusing on them in particular.
“We are focusing on the value chain in the dairy sector, and we want to work in the cocoa sector because it has a great potential.”
