More revelations have come to the open about the sudden and dramatic resignation of Alhaji Abdullahi Ganduje as the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Contrary to the speculation woven around ill-health as the reason for the sudden resignation of Ganduje, it has been revealed that he was directed to vacate his office as the APC national chairman, amid leadership crisis rocking the party.
The circumstance of the resignation of Ganduje, Newscoven.com gathered, was not unrelated to the dramatic turn of events following the APC North-East Convention, held recently.
Tinubu-Shettima angle
The crisis, it was learnt, erupted after party leaders at the convention failed to endorse Vice President Kashim Shettima as the running mate to President Bola Tinubu ahead the 2027 presidential election.
The unexpected snub and rejection of Shettima by the APC, North-East was said to have sent shockwaves through the ruling party’s ranks.
The circumstance of the exit of the former governor of Kano State as the APC national chairman may have also put to rest the speculation that he may emerge as the vice presidential candidate of the party for the 2027 elections.
President Tinubu, said to have been visibly displeased with the outcome of the convention, was reported to have taken a decisive action.
Sources within the top hierarchy of the party disclosed that the president “wielded the big stick,” directing Ganduje to “step down immediately” as the APC National Chairman.
Cabinet shake-up imminent
Ganduje may not be the only fall-guy as it has been further revealed that the axe may fall on some members of the political party currently enjoying plum jobs in the President Tinubu-led administration.
Insiders within the party suggested that a cabinet shake-up may be imminent, with several top officials who were directly involved in the fallout of the convention likely to be shown the door.
