Popular hip-hop artist, Habib Okikiola (aka Portable), on Wednesday, submitted himself to the police for investigation over his alleged involvement in the beating up of a young man identified as D. J. Chicken.
The police had publicly announced that Portable should report himself to the nearest police station, following a video clip that went viral in which he was seen ordering ordering a group of boys to beat the young man.
The latest action of Portable was contained in a press release, AZ:5310/OGS/PRO/VOL 7/128.30/06/2022, by the Ogun Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi.
In compliance with the police order, the popular musician was said to have reported himself to the Eleweran Police Headquarters, Abeokuta on Wednesday, in company of his father and manager.
However, the police stated that the musician was released on bail as the offence allegedly committed was a bailable one, and couple with the ongoing stroke action by civil servants in the state.
“The Ogun State Police Command wishes to inform the general public that the hip-hop artist, Habib Okikiola (aka), Portable, who was requested to report himself at the nearest police station over a viral video where he was seen ordering a group of boys to beat up one boy simply identified as D.J Chicken, has reported at the command’s headquarters, Eleweran, on Wednesday 29 June, 2022,” the release stated.
DSP Oyeyemi further stated in the release that the artist reported at the Eleweran Police Headquarters at about 5pm with his father and manager.
“He was immediately ordered to be taken to the Public Complaint Bureau Office by the state Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Bankole, where he was interrogated about his role in the assault melted to the boy in the video.
“However, since the offence committed is a bailable one, and couple with the strike action embarked upon by the civil servants in the state which also affected our courts, the suspect was released to a reliable surety who promised to produce him anytime he is needed,” he said.
The Ogun Police image-maker also added that the assaulted victim has also been invited to come and state his own side of the story to enable a timely completion of the investigation of the incident by the police.
