The Oyo State Police Command, on Thursday, recorded a major feat in the fight against crimes and criminality as it arrested a driver carrying illegal firearms.
The driver, driving a Toyota bus (with registration number AFZ 933 XA), was arrested at 9:11pm by a team from the Federal Highway Patrol which conducted a stop and search at the Toll Gate on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Ibadan.
This was stated in a press release, AZ:5250/OY/PPRO/VOL.6/318, by the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), CSP Adewale Osifeso, dated Friday, 19 September.
The press release was titled “Oyo State Police Command Enhances Intelligence-Led Operations, Achieves Major Successes With Recent Arrest Of Driver Carrying Illegal Firearms.”
During the stop and search operation, the driver stopped and several illegal items, including two locally-made single barrel firearms, two brand new short stainless steel machetes, and 20 live cartridges, were discovered in the bus.
The press release read thus:
“The Oyo State Police Command is excited to share the successful implementation of intelligence-driven stop and search operations throughout highways, primary roads, and essential intersections within the state.
“These efforts have yielded significant results, greatly increasing community safety and security.
“On Thursday, September 18, 2025, at approximately 9:11 PM, a team from the Federal Highway Patrol conducted a stop and search at the Toll Gate on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in Ibadan.
“During this operation, a Toyota bus (registration number AFZ 933 XA) was stopped, and upon searching the vehicle, officers discovered several illegal items, including two locally-made single barrel firearms, two brand new short stainless steel machetes, and 20 live cartridges.
“The driver was unable to provide a valid driver’s license or the necessary vehicle documentation at the time of the arrest and has been taken into custody along with the bus.
“In addition, just one day prior, on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, other successful operations led to the recovery of a white Toyota Camry (registration number LSD 957 JX) along the Ogbomoso-Iseyin Road.
“This was as well as a disturbing quantity of human flesh found in a suspect’s hand luggage inside a white commercial bus (registration number XA 551 IRG).
“These incidents illustrate the effectiveness of our targeted strategies against vehicle theft and various illicit activities.”
The state Commissioner of Police, Femi Haruna, has restated the dedication of the law enforcement agency in the state to ongoing intelligence-led operations and encouraged residents to remain vigilant, reporting any suspicious behaviour to the authorities promptly.
“If you notice anything unusual, please inform the police right away, and they will respond accordingly.
“Together, we can contribute to making Oyo State a safer place for everyone!,” the Oyo PPRO further stated in the release.
