Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, Ph.D, has called for more synergy and collaborations between security agencies to enhance national security.
He made the call in his welcome address at a two-day capacity-building seminar aimed at strengthening synergy among security agencies and enhancing community peace.
The seminar was organised by the Ogun State Police Command, in partnership with the Vigilante Group of Nigeria, Ogun State Command.
The seminar has the theme: “Joint Collaboration And Intelligence Gathering Among Security Agencies: A Panacea for National Security.”
Declaring the seminar open at POWA Hall, Eleweran, Abeokuta, Ogunlowo described the programme as both timely and critical, given the current national security challenges.
The Ogun Police boss, represented at the event by the DCP, Operations, Muritala Bolanle, underscored the importance of unity, stressing that “the days of rivalry must give way to cooperation.
“Together, we must dismantle insecurity, overcome trust deficits, and rise above unhealthy complexes. Only in unity can we summon the crushing force required to defeat the hydra-headed monster of criminality.”
He reaffirmed that the Nigeria Police Force remains the lead internal security agency and called on all security outfits to deepen their partnership for the benefit of the nation.
“Together with other security outfits, we must dismantle insecurity, overcome trust deficits, and rise above unhealthy complexes.
“United, we stand equipped with the crushing force needed to defeat the hydra-headed monster of criminality.
He said the presence of seasoned security experts at the seminar demonstrated the timeliness and relevance of this year’s theme.
“It underscores the synergy among security agencies and highlights the need to sustain and deepen this collaboration for the benefit of our nation.
“Indeed, the sacrifices of our security personnel—who put their lives on the line daily—demand that we continuously strengthen their capacity,” he said.
He disclosed that the essence of the seminar was to provide a refresher programme for the officers of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria, Ogun State Command.
He said experts from diverse fields were carefully selected to deliver high-value training, assuring that the sessions would be engaging and transformative.
Ogunlowo noted that the seminar would challenge stereotypes and equip participants with the tools of integrity, professionalism, and effectiveness.
He charged participants to “unlearn, learn, and relearn,” urging them to approach the seminar with open minds and be ready to acquire fresh knowledge, transform their perspectives, and elevate their capacity for nation-building.
“By the end of this programme, I am confident that your perspectives, strategies, and capacity for service will be elevated and better aligning you with the task of nation-building,” he added.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Omolola Odutola, stated in a release that the seminar featured contributions from seasoned professionals across security, law, technology, health, and insurance, all delivering high-value training to empower participants.
She added that the sessions were designed to be “engaging, enlightening, and transformative—challenging stereotypes while equipping officers with tools of integrity, professionalism, and effectiveness.
“The two-day event reflects the Ogun State Police Command’s determination to foster positive synergy, sharpen operational effectiveness, and promote national security through continuous collaboration.”
