One of the wanted terror suspects who escaped from the Medium Security Correctional Centre, Kuje, following an attack on the facility by insurgents, last week in Abuja, has been arrested by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency.
The fleeing terror suspect, Suleiman Sidi, was arrested in the early hours of today at Area 1 Motorpark, in the Federal Capital Territory while attempting to board a commercial vehicle to Maiduguri, Borno State.
As contained in a press release by the NDLEA Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, when the terror suspect was searched by the NDLEA operatives, three wraps of cannabis sativa were found on him.
During preliminary interview, the wanted terror suspect confimed he was remanded at the Kuje Correctional Centre for terrorism and robbery charges.
Babafemi also stated in the press release that the terror suspect, Suleiman Didi, admitted that he was indeed one of the inmates who escaped from the facility, last Tuesday.
The Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Mohammed Buba Marwa, commended the officers and men of the FCT Command of the agency for the arrest and their vigilance.
The NDLEA boss also directed that the wanted suspect should be immediately handed over to the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS).
Recalled that scores of heavily armed terrorists bombed their way into the Kuje Medium Security Correctional Centre, in the late night of Tuesday, 5 July and reportedly freed 879 inmates.
Among the inmates freed by the terrorists were, at least, 64 people who were detained on terror-related charges and other suspects with various criminal offences.
It was also reported in some sections of the media that personnel at the Kuje Medium Correctional Centre could not account for the sums of N82 million and $36,000 cash belonging to inmates.
However, the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) has debunked reports that fleeing inmates, during the attack, stole money (local and foreign currencies) belonging to their fellow inmates.
The Service Public Relations Officer (SPRO), Mr Abubakar Umar, denied the reported loss of money in a statementbin Abuja, last Saturday.
