Court Grants Bail To 49 Pro-Yoruba Nation Agitators
A Lagos State Magistrate Court, sitting in Yaba, today, granted bail to the 49 protesters who were arrested on July 3rd, 2021 in Ojota during the peaceful rally organised to create awareness for the actualisation of the Yoruba Nation.
However, only one of them will be released today, the remaining 48, many of who are Muslims, will remain in detention until Thursday due to absence of bail officials to perfect their release papers.
Recalled that a young girl, Jumoke, was killed during the protest which was met with stiff state violence, just as scores of people were arrested by the police in an action that has been widely condemned within and outside the country.
The agitators were granted bail following their arraignment by the police today, just as a statement issued by the Yoruba Nation Global Directorate indicated that the bail conditions of the 48 others were being perfected by their lawyers.
“It gives us great pleasure to announce to you that our Yoruba self-determination agitators detained in Lagos has today been granted bail,” the statement said.
