The Senate has commended the Chairman/Chief Executive of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (rtd) for providing good leadership for the agency in its onslaught against drug cartels, drug abuse and illicit drug trafficking in the country.
The Senate Committee on Public Accounts gave the commendation during a Public Hearing on Service Wide Vote held at the National Assembly Complex, Abuja, earlier today.
The commendation was contained in a press release by Femi Babafemi, the Director, Media and Advocacy NDLEA Headquarters, Abuja.
The chairman of the committee, Senator Mathew Urhoghide, said Marwa’s leadership at NDLEA has changed the country’s drug war narrative, both locally and internationally.
Bemoaning the lost glorious past of the agency, he said it is now visible and glaring to all Nigerians that the NDLEA is not only barking but equally biting deep drug barons and dealers that have for years remained invisible and untouchable.
Senator Urhoghide expressed the readiness of the Senate committee to continue to support Marwa and the anti-narcortic agency to succeed in making Nigeria a drug-free country.
He assured that the Senate committee will continue to push for support for tge tireless efforts of Marwa against drug abuse and trafficking of illicit substances.
The chairman, Senate Committee on Public Accounts urged the NDLEA chairman to always feel free to approach any of the members on any support that will make the agency perform better.
In his response, Gen. Marwa commended the committee, the Senate and the entire National Assembly for providing the necessary legislative support for the agency to achieve its vision and set goals.
He assured them that, with their continued support, NDLEA will continue to make Nigerians and Nigeria proud in the discharge of its responsibilities.
Other committee members at the public hearing include Senator Ibrahim Abdullahi Danbaba; Senator Ibrahim Hadeja (deputy chairman of the committee); Senator Michael Ama Nnachi; Senator Biodun Olujimi and Senator George Sekibo.
The public hearing had in attendance representatives of other federal ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs).
