Dr Victor Omololu Olunloyo, a former governor of Oyo State, is still alive, recuperating at the University College Hospital, Ibadan.
The family of the former governor made this known in a short statement to debunked the news of his death as widely reported on the social media earlier today.
The Olunloyo Family in the official statement, however, disclosed that the former Second Republic governor acknowledged that he is undergoing treatment at the Intensive Care (ICU) of the UCH, Ibadan.
The family thanked Nigerians for their concerns over the state of health of Dr Olunloyo and called for their support in prayer for him.
“We appreciate the public for the interest shown in the wellbeing of our father, Chief Dr. Victor Omololu Sowemimo Olunloyo (aka VOSO).
“In the tradition of the Olunloyo Family of Ibadanland, and based on the principles of integrity, inclusion, and openness upon which our revered father VOSO has always stood, we would like to inform the Nigerian public that we would greatly appreciate your prayers for our father who is presently in the ICU at UCH, Ibadan.
“As a public figure, we believe that his condition should not be hidden from the Nigerian public who have a right to know about their leaders.
“Please accept our most sincere thanks for your all concern and goodwill. May God Almighty bless you all and our dear country Nigeria,” the Olunloyo Family stated in the statement.
Sr Victor Omolulo Olunloyo was elected, in 1983, as the governor of the old Oyo State on the platform of the defunct National Party of Nigeria (NPN).
He defeated the then incumbent governor, the late Chief Bola Ige who was of the defunct Unity Party of Nigeria (UPN) in the 1983 general election to emerge as the governor.
However, Olunloyo ruled over the affairs of the state for just three month, from 1 October, 1983 to 31 December, 1983, following the military coup, led by Major General (President) Muhammadu Buhari, which terminated the Second Republic under the leadership of the late former President Aliyu Usman Shehu Shagari.
