The Oyo State APM Governorship Campaign Organisation has alleged that the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State and its governorship candidate, Senator Sharafadeen Alli, are making unsubstantiated allegations against APM over recurring violent incidents in Ibadan.
APM replies APC over violent incidents
The council called on the APC and the Senator Sharafadeen Alli Campaign Organisation (SSACO) to exercise restraint and avoid statements capable of heightening political tension in the state.
The allegations were contained in a 18 statement issued on Sunday, October, 2026, and signed by Moses Alao, Deputy Director, Media and Publicity of the Adekanmbi Campaign Council.
The Council was reacting to claims that APM supporters were responsible for a series of violent incidents in Ibadan, including alleged attacks involving Hon. Folake Osinowo-Olunloyo and the Accord Party, as well as the reported killing of a man identified as Ridwan, also known as Paul Moore, in Ibadan South-West Local Government Area.
Describing the allegations as irresponsible, the campaign organisation said the claims had not been substantiated and urged political parties to allow security agencies to investigate the incidents and establish the facts.
“We condemn, without equivocation, the allegations that supporters of the APM are responsible for foisting violence in Oyo State in recent times,” it was stated in the statement.
APM questioned the basis for linking its supporters to the reported killing, arguing that the allegations did not identify any suspected perpetrator or provide sufficient details to substantiate the claims.
While expressing condolences over the death, the organisation warned that prematurely attributing criminal acts to political parties could complicate security efforts and allow perpetrators to disguise criminal activities as politically motivated violence.
The campaign organisation urged the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Oyo State Police Command to caution political parties against making what it described as sensational and unsubstantiated accusations.
It also accused the APC and SSACO of repeatedly attempting to link Governor ‘Seyi Makinde, Adekanmbi and the APM to acts of violence without providing evidence to support the claims.
The campaign council further alleged that some online media outlets were being used to circulate one-sided accounts of political incidents, calling on residents to scrutinise such reports and avoid drawing conclusions before investigations were completed.
According to the statement, photographs and videos circulating publicly allegedly showed some Accord Party supporters carrying axes at Molete, although the organisation did not provide further details in the statement about the circumstances surrounding the footage.
The campaign organisation maintained that APM, Governor Makinde and Hon Adekanmbi were committed to peace and had no involvement in the alleged violence.
It urged the APC and other political actors to refrain from making allegations that could inflame tensions ahead of the elections, insisting that security agencies should be allowed to conduct independent investigations and make their findings public.
The Campaign Council also called on residents of Oyo State to remain calm and resist what it described as attempts to influence voters through unverified allegations.
The claims and counterclaims were coming amid political tensions in Oyo State as political parties intensify their activities ahead of the next election cycle.
