Chief Jubril Dotun Sanusi has expressed deep sympathy to the governor of Oyo State, ‘Seyi Makinde, Soun of Ogbomosoland, Oba Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye, the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), and the families of victims of the recent abduction of teachers and students in Oriire Local Government Area.
The Okanlomo of Oodua and Bada Olubadan of Ibadanland, in a statement, described the incident as heartbreaking and unacceptable.
He noted that the abduction of innocent pupils, students, and teachers from Community Grammar School, Baptist Nursery and Primary School, and L.A. Primary School in the Esiele, once again, underscored the urgent need for stronger grassroots security architecture.
Chief Sanusi commended the swift response of security agencies, including the Nigeria Police Force, the military, the Department of State Services (DSS), and local vigilante groups, for their ongoing rescue operations.
“I commend the prompt intervention of our security agencies and the Oyo State Government under the leadership of Governor Seyi Makinde. I also sympathize with the Soun of Ogbomosoland, NUT, and the affected families during this painful moment,” he stated.
The respected businessman and philanthropist called for intensified efforts to ensure the safe and immediate rescue of all those abducted.
Chief Sanusi further stressed the importance of empowering local and traditional hunters, who possess deep knowledge of the forests and terrains across Yorubaland.
“Our traditional hunters and local security networks must be properly equipped and supported to complement the efforts of conventional security agencies.
“They understand the terrain better than anyone and can play a critical role in flushing out terrorists and criminal elements from our communities,” he said.
He urged the Federal Government, South-West governments, and traditional institutions to work together in building a robust community-based security system capable of protecting lives and property.
Chief Sanusi offered prayers for the safe return of all the kidnapped victims and for lasting peace and security throughout Oyo State and Yorubaland.
