The two victims were said to have been killed in a shooting by security operatives believed to be soldiers of the 63 Brigade of the Nigerian Army.
The victims, identified as Macaulay Uku and Daniel Grey, were reportedly killed in the shooting by the stern-looking soldiers.
According to eye witnesses, youths in Okere Community had resisted a traditional ceremony billed to be performed by Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse III.
Multiple sources disclosed that the soldiers were drafted to the scene of the incident, apparently to douse the rising tension in the community.
The sources further disclosed that the two persons died from injuries they sustained during the shoot out.
Uku, according to sources, was shot early in the afternoon, while Grey was later shot in the day in the course of a disagreement between the soldiers and youths.
While the cause of the latest crisis in is still unknown, sources said it was connected to the visit to the Itsekiri Enclave by the Olu of Warri.
“I don’t really know what happened but what we heard was that the Olu went to the shrine as part of his visit to Itsekiri communities.
“Some youths had resisted the monarch from entry the community to perform the rite, prompting the deployment of soldiers to the area.
“Their main grouse was that the monarch was planning to pour anointing oil on the shrine, as against the established customary rites that the people were used to,” one of the sources disclosed.
However, Newscoven.com was not able to obtain from the official quarters a confirmation of the shooting incident in the Okere Community, Delta State as at the time of filing this report.
